Steve Hooker's gold means so much more

What an outstanding performance by Steve Hooker ... I am so happy for him! He didn't have it easy - having so many clearances on his third attempt. He was under lots of physical, mental and emotional pressure and he handled it beautifully. It was certainly nerve wracking to watch and from my experience in any competition like this it is very difficult and demanding to keep performing when the pressure is on.

Steve always looked the strongest on the track. ...

Could we see Australia's first gold at the Bird's Nest?

I can't believe the Olympics are almost over..... I have loved being able to watch it all. Even though I would like to see more field event coverage I really enjoyed so much of the track and field live last night.

While I was very disappointed that Craig Mottram didn't make it and can understand how he must be feeling, I was delighted to see Jared Tallent win another silver medal to back up Sally's effort. ...

I must first say unfortunately we haven't seen much live coverage of the field events on the television coverage. I have been staying up till 2-3am to catch a glimpse of what has been going on in the Bird's Nest. I believe track and field deserves to have better live coverage even though we don't have many Aussies competing. I know I would love to see more.

Today I am still very excited about the women's pole vault final and the 100m Hurdles. Sally McLellan was just unbelievable. ...

Well finally the day has come for the athletics competition to begin. Athletics is called the Queen of Sports and I believe this will be proven over the next few days.
The first day of track and field brought mixed performances for the Australians. Our men in the shot put event didn't make the top 12 and so have no chance to compete in the final.

Tamsyn let her performance do the talking. She had a good race progressing in to the next round in the 800m so well done to her. ...

We are getting towards the end of the first week of the competition and time has definitely flown by. There have been some outstanding performances that we have seen and am sure there is a lot more to come.
One of the things that is fascinating is the fact that so many older athletes are competing at the highest international level. ...

This Olympics is the first that I am watching not as an athlete but a spectator. I have been able to relax and enjoy the show. I was wondering what sort of feelings I would have watching the Games without having to compete. People have been asking me whether I want to be there competing or do I think I would be better than the other girls but interestingly enough I don't have the desire to go back and compete. ...

The recent comments by fellow competitors have again brought up the issue of drugs in sport. A subject that has been around for many years. It’s a subject that is able to divide people in to two different opinions. Some people say all sport needs to become more professional and don’t worry about drug usage and others think it needs to be banned altogether so sport stays clean and fair. ...

We are now days from the opening ceremony
of the Olympic Games which sounds quite unbelievable. There has been a massive
build up to these Games.

Last week unfortunately we still had quite
a bit of bad news in regards to the Australian team. Cyclist Cadel Evans
withdrew from the time trial in Beijing
but he is now back in and competing in the road race. ...
